The idea
A user could choose to generate a proof for an exchange or another party that requests one. The proof would aim to confirm that the funds satisfy a clearly defined rule without revealing every unrelated deposit or payment.
- Funds satisfy a clearly defined rule, such as one about excluded deposit addresses
- Without revealing every unrelated deposit or payment
- Generated only when you choose, for the party that requests it
A proof only means something if its rule is clear
Any future verifier will need to know:
- Q1Which rule was applied
- Q2Which data it used
- Q3When that data was current
What it would not prove
A clean-funds proof would be a specific technical claim, not a universal endorsement of the funds. It would not:
- Certify that money is lawful
- Remove an exchange's own review requirements
- Guarantee that a screened address list is complete
Optional view keys
Maro is also planning optional view keys so a user can grant read-only access where fuller disclosure is needed. We'll document exactly what a view key reveals before releasing it.
